Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji depository, noted additionally as Satara depository, is one of the most important attractions of Satara town. Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji depository was established in 1970, to reveal the wealthy and varied culture of the Maratha Empire. The depository has two main sections – Exhibition Articles and Maratha picture gallery. The Section of Exhibition Articles consists of 4 sub-sections for weapons, inscriptions, paintings, and textiles.
The main exhibits at the Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji depository embody the royal armory, 15th-century portraits of Shivaji Maharaj, paintings glass paintings and miniatures from the Maratha faculty, and Sambhaji Maharaj, royal Maratha costumes, a royal umbrella of Chhatrapati Pratapsingh Maharaj, adorned sarees with Zari, Kashida and brocade work, etc.
